Anything device like this nowadays really should use a more universal power cable. I imagine they could have used USB-C for power and then even A-to-A for data transfer.

Highly recommend for an easy to set up cloud of your own.

I had two 2.5 laptop drives that I had on-hand and needed to wipe before recycling. One of them didn't real (flashing read light and it sounded like it was struggling to spin the disc), but the other read just fine and I was ablet to perform a full format on it.

With this hard drive dock the drive just easily slips into place and is held firm. This dock uses just a power cable and a USB cable, which are easier to tuck away when in use then a SATA cable and unsecured drive. This dock just sits on a desk and is ready to use whenever needed. So far has been used to examine the contents on several drives removed from old computers, and an 8TB disc stays in it to use as a permanent backup drive. It is easy to move around, and very quick to remove the drive from the dock in the event of having to evacuate the office.

I’ve had similar hard drive docks over the years and they have saved my data several times. We recently had a fire in our house and my existing dock along with my Mac mini got severely damaged. I was able to extract the internal 2.5” drive from the Mac Mini and this ORICO dock mounted it on my laptop within seconds so I could retrieve my data. The convertible usb cable is a nice touch for backward compatibility. Plug and play devices like this that just work out of the box are a joy. It’s not something most people will use daily, but for anyone with multiple computers, it’s a valuable tool to have. Look for the Amazon coupon to take a nice % off when purchasing.

A Docking Station lets you mount and run internal hard drives without having an external case; it supplies both power and data connections, and is a convenient way to transfer files to/from archives.

I've got enclosures for hard drives, and bare wire technician USB adapters to connect to hard drives in the field, but the former is time consuming and the latter looks weird on a desk full-time. This dock from Orico (a brand I already trust and use other computer products from frequently) means that I can leave a drive reader sitting out for those longer in-office projects that doesn't look like it belongs on a workbench or require any assembly & disassembly each time it's used. Plugging in drives is easy; desktop SATA drives fill the slot completely and laptop SATA drives displace the spring-loaded flap slightly while the flap keeps a tiny bit of pressure on them.

Tested this with a 27 Apple iMac, Surface Pro 7 and Surface Pro 8 and two lenovo laptops and one Asus ROG laptop.. Unit worked with all systems i tried it on. I was able to use the 120gb of the drive in the slot and had no issues reading or writing data to the drive. It also ejects fine with each of the systems as well.

The ORICO Hard Drive Dock is a simple box that accepts 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 inch drives with modern SATA sockets. When you offer up the drive it mates nicely with a little click. There is a USB C socket at the back and an ON/OFF switch. It works fast with the only delay being the Hard Drive spin up time. Windows and Mac will need to do their own research but it seems to be nice and non proprietary with dependable behavior. I am going to spend quite a few hours blending this excellent little device into my routine.

Perfect little unit and very handy to have, that is if you like the ability to just plug it in and use it without all the mounting required by other setups.

I am expecting some nerdy hacking but basically if lsblk can give me device name (like sdb1) then in Linux it is straight forward to mount the drives to the system. I might need to write 10 lines of code to make a little backup routine but that's part of the fun. Maybe I should ask ChatGPT to do it for me.

Quality of the drive is spot on with what i would expect for enclosures of this type. I do love the fact that it works with SATA drives that are either 3.5 or 2.5 inches. This is not for Ribbon ATA drives.. this is for SATA Drives only.

I think this Drive Dock from ORICO is going to be the answer to my prayers. I plugged it in, stuffed in a Hitachi 1TB drive and connected the USB to an old laptop running Linux Mint. The hard drive started whirring immediately. I went into the Command Line Interface and and keyed in lsblk (List Blocks) and it immediately showed the new drive. If I pulled the drive out it disappeared and then reappreared when I put it back in. Woohoo I love it already! These drives were in a RAID array so I will probably need to reformat them.

I have tons of enclosures that i use when i need to get a hard drive up and running to pull data off them. This hub is perfect!. I much rather have the ability to just plug the drive in and not having to install/uninstall a drive into an enclosure just to use it. This makes it fast, convenient and simple.

Aside from those two things (feels cheap and weird power adapter setup), it seems to work great. Traditional HDDs aren't super common these days, but this is really nice to have around just to be safe.
