There is almost no information about the NS-500RC3 5 Bay raid model. I installed 5 14TB drives followed instructions for RAID 5 and it worked. I'm getting 200+ MB/second transfers. The instructions could be more clear and having to install an app to ser it up is a pain, but the form factor is great.

My computer (intel NUC) had no issue seeing the new drives instantly, however with 4 drives in use the drives tend to get pretty hot. The only cooling is a single fan in the back and there is *very* little space around the drives for air to go around the drives, even with the front panel off.

I didn't think the installation of the hard drive could possibly be as easy as they described. But it was! Just push it in and go. Took less the 5 minutes to get up and running. Plugged into my laptop, plugged in the hard drives and I was off to the races.

Works great. Using as swappable backup drives, attached to home NAS and remotely mounted to multiple PCs.

This was easy as plug and play. I put in my 5 hard drives and presto all of my media files, music and UHD movies all at my finger tips. I have not been this happy about anything in a long time. I’m playing music in one room while watching a movie in another and it’s all controlled from my Orico enclosure

I bought this one to replace a 2-disk RAID enclosure that my system couldn't find on a continuous basis. I thought the dives were damaged but when I put them in this unit, they popped up immediately. I added 2 more drives and created a RAID 10 unit of 8 TB. As this unit has a fan for cooling, it can be distracting. Unfortunately, when I shut down my computer the fan continues to run and I have to manually turn off the unit. Also the blue plastic shell inside the cover is removable for better airflow through the side vents.

I had recently upgraded all the drives in my Synology NAS so I had 5 extra drives I wasn't sure what do with. Wasn't sure if this would work, but I plugged it into the USB in my NAS and the Synology NAS recognized all 5 drives. Highly recommend.

Easy to set up. Quiet. Provides convenient additional storage without RAID constraints. It's convenient for files that aren't required to be highly available or require advanced maintenance like backups, restorations and the like.

I am also using a USB switch with this to switch between two media players and this turns on and off as the media devices turn on and off, UNLIKE the Sabrent. If the unit goes to sleep per your source device, it takes about 8 seconds for it to wake up and start playing media. Transfer speeds over USB 3.0 are around 150MB/s. This is GEN 1 USB-C connection fyi. So far, liking the simplicity and agility of the device.

I am using this to simply store 60TB worth of data and while something like the Sabrent drove the HDD hard and noisy, I've yet to hear a peep out of this machine using the same HDD. Oddly, there's nothing securing the HDDs as far as front chassis or door go but still very quiet enclosure indeed. Its faster than the Sabrent too when booting and lighter in weight. Fan air runs cool... this may change later on as time goes on.

I will be comparing it to Sabrent 5 Bay as I tried both and came away cheering for the Orico.

This item LOOKS great. I own both the 5-bay and 8-bay units. Unfortunately - other than looks - that is about the extent of the high points. Functionality-wise, the drives I have are constantly overheating in both the 5-bay and 8-bay units. They go into emergency low-power mode to prevent thermal damage. Airflow is almost non-existent. Only way I was able to keep from losing physical drives is by removing the cover and using a secondary fan. I am not sure who engineered this thing, but the way the vents are designed it was obvious they prioritized looks over actual technical functionality. If you truly rely on and value the retention of your data, I can't really recommend this product for long-term use. Not unless you keep it in a room with the AC running at 65F or something. Even then it will run really warm without an external fan.
